Move-out cleaning of your cabin — checklist
A thorough move-out clean is a natural part of handover. Follow the checklist room by room to leave the cabin in the condition the buyer expects.

- Dust ceilings, mouldings, door frames and radiators
- Wipe switches, sockets and door handles
- Clean windows inside and out, including frames and sashes
- Clean lamp shades and fixtures
- Vacuum and damp-mop all floors.
- Empty and clean wardrobes, shelves and storage
Kitchen
- Clean stove, oven, trays and racks — don't forget behind and under the stove
- Defrost and clean fridge and freezer
- Clean the extractor fan, replace or wash the filter
- Wipe cabinets and drawers inside and out
- Clean sink, mixer and drain
Bathroom and WC
- Clean taps, showerhead, toilet and tiles
- Clean the floor drain and strainer
- Wipe bathroom cabinets and clean mirrors
- Clean washing machine, tumble dryer and detergent drawer
- Check and clean ventilation vents
Bedroom and living room
- Dust any built-in bookshelves and wardrobes
- Clean wood stove or open fireplace, empty the ashes
- Wipe window sills and curtain rails
Hall, entrance and stairs
- Wipe shoe racks, coat hangers and hat shelf
- Clean the front door inside and out
Sunroom, deck and storage
- Sweep any deck, stairs and sunroom
- Empty and clean storage, woodshed and guest cabin
Before you hand over the keys
- Read electricity and water meters, note values and date
- Turn off or lower radiators as agreed
- Check that no personal belongings are left behind
- Gather all keys, any alarm codes and manuals
- Take photos of the cleaned condition as documentation
Tips
Agree in writing with the buyer on the cleaning standard already in the purchase contract — that avoids misunderstandings on the handover day. If the cabin is large or time is short, hire a professional cleaning company; keep the receipt as documentation.
